High Fitness Certification

My project was to become a certified High Fitness instructor. I planned a trip to Phoenix, Arizona and attended an all-day training. After taking a master class, I learned many skills and tips for running my own High business. We practiced learning choreography, cueing steps, demonstrating correct technique, and marketing our class. I reviewed what I learned for the next few weeks and then submit videos of myself mock teaching to the High Fitness team. I was finally certified in August and have since been hired by VASA Fitness and SUU to instruct my own classes.

High Fitness an intense, high energy, aerobic workout involving cardio and toning intervals. I started participating a couple of years ago in Utah County and I was immediately addicted. When I moved back to Cedar City for school, there were no classes available. That's when I knew I had to become an instructor. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to use for my EDGE project.

My project had few obstacles. One problem was that there were no instructor trainings being offered in Utah at that time. I had to register for a class in Arizona, which took extra planning and money. I earned enough money by teaching dance classes to children. I was also able to stay with a friend in St. George, so I didn't have to get a hotel room or drive as far as I would have. After the training was over, I faced the obstacle that I still wasn't an instructor. I had to go out and find a job. I applied and interviewed with VASA and SUU, and earned teaching positions with both.

Since becoming an instructor, I have been able to benefit people in Cedar City who have been seeking a new form of exercise. High Fitness inspires people to reach goals of better health and wellness. It exemplifies a lifestyle of empowerment that I am happy to spread. It's amazing and rewarding to watch the participants get stronger and more fit with each class. It's my goal to share this lifestyle with as many people as possible.

I have been personally benefitted by this project in many ways. First, I learned how to instruct my own aerobics class and how to market my business. Next, I got two jobs instructing, which are providing me with income to help pay for college and my everyday needs. In the future, as I prepare to open my own dance studio, this certification will add variety to the types of classes I am able to offer customers. I am so grateful for my High Fitness Certification.

I'm glad I was able to use my EDGE project for something that would be beneficial to myself and others. This experience has been a great opportunity to make a difference for the community.
